Bev's Book Beat-June 2024

“June is the pearl of summer, shining with love and joy.”

L.M Montgomery

Indeed it is. The weather hasn't really felt like summer yet, but it will be all too soon. As we head into the warmer weather one of the best ways to stay cool, of course, is reading. Wherever, whenever, always make time for reading. I could list all the reasons why, I’ll just leave it at all the enjoyment it brings.

Upcoming:

Literary Cafe: June 14th at 10 am.

Book Discussion June 27th at 4 pm. We are doing Two Nights in Lisbon by Chris Pavone.

Surprisingly my Summer Book Club theme is about murder mysteries. Murder! In the Library!

Sign up begins at 10 am June 3rd.

There’s a couple of books on Junes’ list I’m looking forward to:

Ace Atkins takes a break from his Quinn Colson series with hid new one, Don’t Let the Devil Ride. I like his Coldon series so I’m looking forward to this one. Mr Atkins had taken over writing Robert B. Parker’s Spenser series for a few years. I thought he did a nice job writing it.

Joseph Kanon is one of the best at writing  thriller spy novels, he’s a big favorite of mine. Shanghai is his new one, check it out. His books are set right after WWII when the spy Mr. Kanon has been compared to John Le Carre, a good comparison.

James Lee Burke. Can’t wait to read his new one, Clete. For those who follow his Dave Robicheaux series, you know Clete is his sidekick. Clete takes the lead in this one.

A few of my other favorite authors, Jacqueline Winspear, Mark Greaney, Lucy Foley… June looks like a great month for books! Make sure to check some out.

**FYI: I know Michael Crichton has been dead for sixteen years. Doesn’t mean James Patterson can’t write a book with him. Actually it’s one of Crichton books Patterson was asked to finish. Always liked Crichton, I’m curious how the two blend in Eruption.

Forget Me Never by Susan Albert Wittig

“Reading is the sole means by which we slip, involuntarily, often helplessly, into another’s skin, another’s voice, another’s soul.”

Joyce Carol Oates

Jean Hersey said “June is the gateway to summer.” Here we go!

Stay cool! Enjoy the warmer weather, lose yourself in a good book.

Enjoy!
