Bev's Book Beat-July 2024

“A perfect summer day is

when the sun is shining,

the wind is blowing,

the birds are singing,

the lawnmower is broken,"

and you can relax and read

a good book.”

James Dent… (excerpt for that last part,

I added that.)

July. The middle of summer, full of lazy days filled with sun, beach, pool, friends, fun. Doesn’t get much better. Enjoy them. While I may dislike summer I know many do, I also know it doesn’t last long. (Just feels like it)

Briar Club by Kate Quinn

Storm Child by Michael Robotham

Slow Dance by Rainbow Rowell

History of Sound by Ben Shatuck

A Death in Cornwell by Daniel Silva

Conditions of Unconditional Love by Alexander McCall Smith

Shadow of Doubt by Brad Thor

Of course I'm looking forward to Daniel Silver's new one, A Death in Cornwell. It's always nice to catch up with Gabriel Allon. MGM Television has acquired the rights to this series. No casting has been done yet. I'm curious who it will be. I'm glad it's going to be a series and not a movie.

I like Kate Quinn, I will check out her newest book, The Briar Club.

The Wrong Hands by Mark Billingham is the second in his Detective Miller series. The first being

The Last Dance. I liked the first one so I will definitely read this one. I feel England has one of the best atmospheres for gritty crime thrillers.

If you haven't tried Mark Billingham you should. Never hurts to try a different author.

Those books, along with the book discussion, should take care of the next few weeks of summer!

The Comfort of Ghosts (Maisie Dobbs Book 18) By Jacqueline Winspear

I’m sad to see the Maisie Dobbs series come to an end. Set in post-WWI, Maisie starts her own private              investigation agency. As the series unfolds you find out more about Maisie’s life and how WWI impacted            her life. Historical mystery at its best. Looking to start a new series? This is one of my favorites and I                highly recommend it.
