Northern Ireland, with its rich history and dramatic coastline, may constitute only about one-fifth of the island of Ireland; and its southern neighbor, the Republic of Ireland, may draw in more tourists, but this is one Destination definitely not to be overlooked by travelers! Fans of Game of Thrones have flocked to Northern Ireland ever since the HBO series first hit American airwaves to see in person the captivating backdrop of the show’s most compelling scenes. Armagh may not be a town name familiar to most, but given how the month of March is generally given over to celebrating St. Patrick and all things Irish, that’s something of a surprise. St. Patrick, once a captured slave who herded sheep in the area, chose Armagh to be the center of the Catholic Church in 5th century Ireland. The capital of Northern Ireland, Belfast, is a metropolitan city that gave birth to the ill-fated Titanic. Whether you think the odd cluster of six-sided stones developed as a course of nature, or were built by a massive giant to cross between Ireland and Scotland, the Giant’s Causeway is a breathtaking part of the Antrim Coast.
