Stephen Sanfilippo takes the listener on a voyage into the county historic and ongoing connection with the sea, performing songs from the late 18th through late 20th centuries, with a concentration on the mid-1800s. Found in document archives and rare books in many parts of Suffolk, the songs tell of a Greenport whaling ship of the 1830s, an 1840s romantic ballad found in a whaleman's journal, and stories of Long Island rum-running, shipwrecks, clamming and spearing for eels in winter, a lighthouse restoration, an unfortunate encounter with a water barrel, a humorous tale of salvaging, and the sad fate of Captain Kidd.
