The Wasteland by T. S. Eliot, Part I: "The Burial of the Dead"
The Waste Land, published in 1922, expresses with great power the disillusionment of the period after World War I. In section one, "The Burial of the Dead," voices appear of those who prefer to be buried in the cold oblivion of winter and who regret the sudden imposition of spring. They prefer that their memories and desires remain buried along with other inconvenient corpses. Is their any chance of resurrection to genuine life?
