Program Description

Event Details

There is recent evidence that another pandemic could be emerging because of a growing bird flu (Avian Influenza) outbreak that has affected millions of birds, poultry farms and cattle herds in the US. Because other human pandemics were caused by bird-derived viruses, including the Spanish flu of 1918 that killed an estimated 50 million people worldwide and the 1957 Asian flu that killed 69,800 people in the US, health officials have concerns. Attendees will learn about the symptoms of bird flu, how bird flu spreads and how likely it is to spread to humans. Recommendations for the Public from CDC on infection prevention, control, monitoring and treating symptomatic and asymptomatic persons with dairy cattle or other animal exposures (including pets) will also be reviewed.
