A Library of Things is a collection of items that expands the boundaries of traditionally defined library materials.
We intend for these items to provide a new,
exciting experience for our patrons.
Upon agreeing to the procedure and clicking the I Agree box, you will be directed to the list of items available to borrow.
Library of Things Procedure
- Based on item availability, holds may be made online through the Library's catalog, by calling (631) 298-4134 or in-person with a library staff member. The patron placing the reservation must check out the item or device using their own card in person at the Circulation or Reference Desk.
- Items and devices are available for checkout to Mattituck-Laurel Library adult cardholders aged 18 and older with a library account in good standing.
- Items and devices have a 14 day loan period. You must return the item by the return date specified. A single renewal may be possible.
- Fines are $5.00 a day (up to a maximum of $50) and replacement charges vary for each item. You are responsible for lost or damaged items and devices that you borrow. Borrowers will be billed for the full replacement cost of any item that is kept more than 14 days past the due date. Items with holds are not renewable.
- You will be notified when your item is ready to be picked up.
- You may only have 2 Library of Things items out at a time.
- Items and devices must be returned to the Circulation or Reference Desks and may not be returned in the outside book drop nor to any facility other than the Mattituck-Laurel Library.
- You may view your holds and make changes online. As a courtesy to others, please cancel any reservation you will not be using as soon as possible.
- The Library reserves the right to review and amend these guidelines as it becomes necessary.
- Mobile Hotpots- the Mobile Hotspot should be kept in a temperature controlled environment; DO NOT leave it in your car. Internet content filtering is NOT provided through the Mattituck-Laurel Library Wireless Hotspot. Parents/Guardians are responsible for monitoring what their children access. Any returned device must remain in the library for 24 hours before a patron, or another patron living in the same household, may check it out again.
- The borrower must sign the Library of Things Borrowers Agreement when picking an item up. Click here to view the Borrowers Agreement.
