"Surroundings"
Photography by Hollye Gilbride

Retirement, that period in our lives when we plan to accomplish all of the things we have put off doing until we have the time. I have always had a passion for photography, so with my new found freedom, I decided to go back to school for digital imaging. A couple of years after completing my degree, I realized that I had not accomplished much of my "I can't wait to do all of this when I retire" list including not having touched my camera in several months. I decided to do 52 things, one a week for a year. The first was to take a picture a day for 365 days. Some days I took hundreds, others, when I realized the day was almost over, dinner became my muse. Each day I chose a photograph and this exhibit is a sampling. The project taught me to explore my environment, and not only to look at, but to really see, what surrounds me. Enjoy! I know I did. Hollye Gilbride is a Mattituck resident, and this is her second show in our library gallery.
